GearBuilder is a small but nevertheless helpful plugin for building almost any kind of gear.
To make it simple, GearBuilder is an expression for constraining the rotation and position of objects to emulate the behaviour of cogwheels, wheels on an axis and wheels connected by belts. The created gears can either be driven by a GearBuilder motor or simply by keyframing the rotation of the initial wheel.

Wondering if I can use this model and render the scenes for sale inside a 30 second AE template. Is that ok for the licensing? City Rig uses Mograph, and based on the comparison chart on Maxon. I bought the first City Rig you guys released a while ago.
Will I be required to still pay full price for City Rig 2. Or will there be some kind of update or something like that? Hi Scoot: No. There is no deadline. Hi James. Says it expired May 31, How do I go about upgrading at this point?
Two questions. I want to fly down a city block local city. City kit would be a great start. Can you edit models after — undoubtedly have to build some? Its not clear if there is a way to loose parametric control and have raw polys….
Hi Shelley: Yes, you can edit the models. The software found its niche within the motion graphics industry as it offers a robust MoGraph module among many high-level features. Of all its competitors, Cinema 4D is the easiest to learn as it features an intuitive interface and a logical workflow. Check Out This Tutorial. In this tutorial you get a handshake from Cinema 4D and learn workflows throughout the whole pipeline.
The tutorial does not have a case-specific output but it will surely get you up to speed with Cinema 4D fast. Cinema 4D makes it easier for a beginner to get up and running with 3D concepts within a day. As such, you might be tempted to skip this tutorial since it only covers the GUI.
But I highly recommend not skipping over this one! This tutorial is also part of a comprehensive intro series for Cinema 4D. So this offers a decent starting point on modeling in Cinema 4D. While the resulting object will not pass for a portfolio, the techniques shown will prove useful in future modeling exercises.
Also take a look at the corresponding project files here. Want to create a cool dark alleyway sign with all the fancy VFX styles? Well you can with this free tutorial. Neon signs present a unique challenge as the object itself is the light source rather than using a dedicated light source.
Rigging is mainly divided into organic and mechanical rigging. In this tutorial you get to practice the latter. One of these trends is the design of low-poly objects. With this video you can jump right into low poly design work all in C4D. After the tutorial you should be able to create a stylized mountain environment with several props such as a boat and a simple docking bay.
Made specifically for beginners, this modeling tutorial gives you a deeper look into the workflow of creating a 3D scene. Most of the shapes are built from a cube object with the help of other primitives such as a cylinder to add minor details ex: porch light.
In the rendering phase you get to use the render region feature to accelerate your look development process. And if you wanna check out the end result be sure to download the project files here. The catch here is you are not necessarily building a Christmas tree solely through modeling. The preview looks complicated but this type of short catchy motion graphic piece is where Cinema 4D excels best.
For a smooth workflow the author mentions that, if possible, your objects should be in low resolution as dynamics calculations require heavy processing power. You can check the accompanying source files here to follow along. While not as feature-rich compared to dedicated sculpting programs like ZBrush or Mudboxthe C4D tools still go a long way. With this tutorial you can create appealing mouth shapes that can be used for lip-syncing or for stylized characters.
This leads into exploring case studies with the cloth system such as abstract simulations, inflated text, and creating pillows. The movement is interesting as it is not too detailed but not too abstract either. So with this video tut you learn how to slice meat mainly using the bend deformer to peel the object.
While Cinema 4D dynamics are not that detailed compared to other 3D software, this is definitely the easiest tool to use. The tricky part here is setting up the dynamics right. While the bell looks simple, it presents several problems such as collisions and attaching a rigid body to a collider body object. You can check the complete project files and download a copy to follow along. Destruction usually comes with a complicated project setup, but with this tutorial a total beginner can easily follow along.
Another possible usage for this effect is in a disintegration. The Think Particle Building Generator is designed to help you create a variety of architectural designs quickly and powerfully.

So you can find Cinema 4D tutorials that mix third-party Modifiers and Effectors with native tools, use Turbulence FD to convect X-particles and then visualise them with the Hair shader, shatter meshes with Nitroblast and then animate them with Signal Every now and then you find a plugin that doesn't offer a means to a particular end, but inspires you to investigate further nonetheless.
Trypogen is one such plugin. It's a generator plugin that lets you take a simple object and create something that combines the best of mathematical-based processes with the random and organic nature of the more playful side of 3D.
It's a bit of a niche product, but Trypogen encourages playful experimentation and can actually yield beautiful, if unexpected, results in very little time. Combine that with its compatibility with MoGraph, and you have a very useful tool for little cost. This amazing particle and VFX system has a host of useful features.
You can create stimulations for cloth, smoke, fire and fluids, for example, and it integrates seamlessly into Cinema 4D. If you can use C4D, you can use X-Particles. TurbulenceFD is a voxel-based fluid dynamics simulation system for making fire and smoke. It's easy to use, includes studio presents and has built-in support for renderers Octane, Arnold and Redshift.
Scroll Roll Deformer was designed to help create rolling paper and carpet-like effects, says Daniel Fitzgerald, developer at Curious Animal, but he found it was also a fun way to create sprouting animations.
Scroll Roll also turned out to be perfect for growing sprouting objects and growing feathers. By scaling these objects up from nothing as they unroll he was able to transition them on smoothly, but in a much more interesting way than a simple scale. When applied to a mesh, Motion Stretch Deformer — as you might guess — stretches the geometry according to its movement, creating things like motion trails.

As its name suggests, SplinePatch 3. This is ideal for creating complex forms that remain editable and animatable, such as cars, clothing, characters, packaging or other convoluted shapes. Forester is a procedural vegetation creation plugin that makes an endless variety of grass, trees and plants, and that also comes with a rock generator and a scattering function, called the Multicloner.
Its latest update also integrates with C4D's Variation shader, so you can colour your leaves randomly. It provides a set of over 65 presets for various animation sequences, which can then be tweaked to suit. It works well on text, clone arrays or fractured objects made using Nitroblast. The Difference Map is a handy plugin that enables you to layer effects on top of your deformation by creating a vertex map describing the effect of the deformer on each point in your model.
So, if using Impact deformer to create ripples, you could use the Difference Map tab to create a vertex map that you reference in a material to give those ripples a different colour to the rest of the object.
